COMPARISON OF PRACTITIONERS OF YOGA AND NON-PRACTITIONERS OF YOGA ON STRESS, ANXIETY AND COPING STYLES

The modern era has brought for many blessings in the form of technological advancements, high standards of living, dream world of comforts, high standards of living, and dream world of comforts, high achievements and new challenges. It has also brought along the curses like acute, anguish, frustration, exploitation, unemployment, poverty, irrational distribution of power and wealth, dissatisfaction, greed, lust, fall in physical fitness standards, decrease of mental and moral strength, loss of human values and balanced attitude. Among many yoga is the most effective method in coping with stress and all other problems. It can play a vital role in helping individuals to cope effectively with their inner changes and adjust with the external forces by enabling them to develop an integrated, harmonious and balanced personality. The present research was conducted to compare practitioners of yoga with non-practitioners of yoga on stress, anxiety and coping styles.At the end it was found that subject performing yoga scored lower on stress symptoms, state anxiety and trait anxiety in comparison to subject not performing yoga. Also subject performing yoga scored higher on problem focus coping style and lower on emotion focus coping style in comparison to subject not performing yoga
