Abstract

There are very few countries in the world where English is taught on such a massive scale as in India. Unfortunately, it is equally true that in very few countries does the profession suffer from a greater sense of frustration and helplessness than here. When we think of the status of English in the context of states like Haryana, Punjab, U.P., H.P. etc., a grim picture floats before our eyes. Our students share a nightmarish experience in the learning of English language which includes the learning of basic grammar, textual literature and spoken English.
