Abstract

All over the world, the unorganized manufacturing sector is known as Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) while in India this is known as SSI defined in terms of investment in plant and machinery. It is no doubt that India witnessed phenomenal economic development in the past two decades. It is also clear that this growth was fuelled by enormous growth of SSI. The small-scale industries sector plays a vital role in the growth of the country. It contributes almost 40% of the gross industrial value added in the Indian economy. SSI Sector in India creates largest employment opportunities for the Indian populace, next only to Agriculture.
