Abstract

India and China share many similarities. Earlier their policy regarding foreign trade and investment was very much restricted. During this phase both the countries suffered a lot on account of inefficiency in production and technology. China’s “open door” policy came into force in 1978 whereas in India liberalization policies came in 1991. Economy of China grew much faster than any other country with a focus on export growth and attracted FDI. India too followed it but with very slow approach. With a result today picture is very clear that China is pushing itself toward becoming the number one country in the world and stands above all other so called developed nations. While it needs a lot of efforts for India to achieve that level.
