Abstract

Microfinance is a financial service of small quantity provided by financial institutions to the poor. These financial services may include savings, credit, insurance, leasing, remittance, equity transaction, etc; that is any type of financial service provided to customers to meet their normal financial needs; with the only qualification that (1) transaction value is value, and (2) customers are poor. Micro finance gives access to financial and non-financial services to low income people who wish to access money for starting or developing an income generation activity. Microfinance is emerging as a powerful tool for poverty alleviation and women empowerment in the new economy.
