STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AMONG GRADUATING STUDENTS

Abstract

Student engagement (SE) refers to the degree of attention, curiosity, interest, optimism, and keenness that students show once they are learning or being taught, which extends to the extent of motivation they have to acquire and progress in their education. The enhanced student engagement increases students’ learning practices; however, it’s not always clear how to choose and integrate the best tools and technologies to accomplish this. The main objective of this studyis to examine the level of Student Engagement in graduating students and alsoto study the relationships among various components of Student Engagement. A total of 447 students across various disciplines were selected using a simple random sampling technique. All the subjects were assessed on The Kember and Leung (2009) version of the SEQ to analyse the Student Engagement (SE) among graduating students. The study revealed that there ishighrelationship exists between Intellectual Capabilities (IC) and working Together (WT and moderate relationship between Intellectual Capabilities (IC) and other components i.e., Teaching (T), Teacher-Student Relationship (T-SR) and student-student Relationship(S-SR) of SEQ (Student Engagement Questionnaire). The study showed that graduating students havehigh level of Student Engagement irrespective of disciplines that they study.
