Abstract

Spiritualism is a very old concept, which arose with the origin of man. It is a metaphysical belief of reality of the world being made up of two fundamental substances that is, matter and mind. But, man as a worldly creature cope up with the material and neglects the spiritual. But, there is an insight inside every man which seeks the spiritual aspect. Yogic philosophy in recent era has taken the shape as the way leading one towards spiritualism. Yogic Spiritualism could be understood in two senses. Firstly, in the sense of real mode of realization and second, in the sense of balancing the material needs. The second sense is more trending. But as a whole, Spiritualism is way beyond the balance of the material. It is the real mode of life. Man as a whole is not a mere machine. In this respect Sri Aurobindo can be revisited as a great spiritual hero. His philosophy can be revived as an essential need to understand ‘yogic spiritualism’. In his philosophy he has given a very special place to yoga. According to him, Yoga is the realization of the divine on earth in the bodily state, but it does not lead to supernatural existence. It helps changing the entire physical, vital and mental process and bring own the divine transformation possible in the earthly consciousness. Thus, there is a much greater need to revive the concept of yogic spiritualism as stated by Sri Aurobindo which could serve the purpose of spiritual awakening.
