A CORELATIONAL STUDY OF SELF-PERCEPTION AND STUDY HABITS OF GIFTED STUDENTS BELONGING TO ARTS AND SCIENCE ACADEMIC STREAMS

Abstract

Secondary Education plays an important role in any education system. The passing of higher secondary board examination is a big obstacle for students in their educational progress. Self Perception, Study Habit and individual difference in studies have long been considered to be important in respect of these factors. The present study has been carried out to determine the difference in self perception and study habits of gifted arts and science stream students at secondary level. A statified random sample of 200 gifted out of which 100 arts students and 100 science students were selected. The study was taken in two district of Meerut Commissionary. Group test of intelligence by G.C Ahuja was applied to find gifted students. Self-Perception inventory by soars and soars was used to measure Self-Perception of student. Study Habits of the students were measured by Study Habit inventory by B.V. Patel. Descriptive survey method of research was used. The mean, SD, T-test were used to analyze the whole data. The result confirms that creative arts and science students have low Self-Perception and Study Habits than gifted arts and science students. This study is useful for the future of the students because Self-Perception and Study Habits of school aged students has became additional major area of concern in school mental health service due to interaction among academic achievement, social interaction, and the emotional well being of students. It is acknowledge that the way students perceive themselves performing competently in school with friends and with family.
