ASSESSING THE ATTITUDE OF NTPC MANAGERS TOWARDS THE PROMOTIONAL POLICIES OF THEIR ORGANIZATION

Abstract

Management in businesses and organizations is the function that coordinates the efforts of people to accomplish goals and objectives by using available resources efficiently and effectively. NTPC is India’s largest energy conglomerate with roots planted way back in 1975 to accelerate power development in India. Since then it has established itself as the dominant power major with presence in the entire value chain of the power generation business. The most important asset of any organization is its human resource. It is the human resource that should be well managed and equipped for any organization to flourish. The present study investigates the level of promotional policies among the managers of NTPC. Besides the kind of work perceived by the managers, the nature of human relations of NTPC was also observed. The sample of 300 managers was taken on the availability basis from the various branches of NTPC. Based on the scores obtained from the questionnaire of job satisfaction, frequency and percentage of the total data was analyzed. Ten statements were asked regarding promotional policies and the responses of the NTPC managers were tabulated. It was found that the promotional policies of the managers at NTPC gives them good opportunities for advancement, is based on merit consideration, is time bound and seniority based having transfers along with them. On the other hand, it was also observed that the promotion system does not have proper reward system, has uncertainty, partiality is done in some cases and gives limited opportunity for the self-personality development of the manager. It may be concluded from the findings of the present research work that the managers of NTPC were satisfied regarding the promotional policies provided to them by the company.
