SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE PROFICIENCY OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract

Social intelligence is the ability to understand the society, and its heartbeats. It is defined as a total competence of an individual to proceed purposefully, reflect rationally and deal effectively and efficiently to a given situation. Thorndike (1920) defined Social Intelligence as “the ability to understand others and act wisely in human relations. Social Intelligence is the ability to understand the feelings, thoughts and behaviours of persons in interpersonal circumstances and to perform appropriately, based on that understanding. Persons elevated with social intelligence are considered to be clever to convene the hassle of every day running and to be prepared to handle apprehension and challenges for their own welfare and of others. In all countries, school is a place where students and teachers spend major hours of their lives together. It is a dynamic period of their life i.e., childhood and adolescence. Educating the life skills is one of the means of psychological and mental health development which would further lead the individual to social, cultural and political evolutions. Social Intelligence has an appropriate role in determining the goals, decision making, problem solving, determination and detection of individual values and prevention of behavioral disorders and social deviations among school children.
