IMPACT OF LIFE SKILLS EDOCATION AND SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE ON ADOLESCENCE IN CURRENT SCENARIO OF EDUCATION

Abstract

WHO defines Life Skills as the abilities for adaptive and positive behavior that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life? Life skills Education takes into account psychosocial competencies and interpersonal skills that help the adolescent to take right decisions, solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate effectively, build healthy relationships, empathize with others, and cope with managing their lives in a healthy and productive manner. Thorndike (1920) defined Social Intelligence as “the ability to understand others and act wisely in human relations. Social Intelligence in the current scenario of education is the ability to comprehend the feelings, thoughts and behaviours of the adolescent in interpersonal circumstances and to perform appropriately, based on that understanding. The present study related to life skill education divulges that there is a significant level of Life Skills Competence among high school students and there is significant difference between high school boys and girls in their life skills competence and girls have better life skills competence than boys. The current study reveals that there is significant difference in life skills competence of high school students with regard to parental education. The present study linked to Social Intelligence reveals that there is significant difference between high school boys and girls in their social intelligence and girls have higher social intelligence than boys. Further, there is significant difference between the social intelligence of high school students with regard to type of school. Over and above there is significant difference between the social intelligence of high school students with regard to location of the school. Students from urban schools have higher social intelligence compared to students from rural area. There is significant difference between the Social Intelligence of high school students with regard to medium of instruction. English medium students have higher social intelligence.
