Abstract

The population of India forms 1,21 crore spread as 62.5 crore male and 58.5 crore female as per population data recently being provided in the census 2011. Women in India, were designated as the purveyors of family in the form of Goddesses. The socio- economic pattern has recorded kaleidoscopic changes over the years and decades and the influence of westernization, industrialization, nuclear family system and other challenges of unemployment, poverty and over population attempted to destruct the existing traditional social- structure and as a result, the place of women badly influenced. Crimes and violence against women increased. A comprehensive legal net has been framed for empowerment of women in the beginning of the twentieth century. United Nations has adopted conventions and treaties which are a binding to the countries who recognize them.
