EFFECT OF IRON DEFICIENCY ANEMIA ON HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE IN INFANTS OF DIFFERENT PRAKRITI (PHYSICAL CONSTITUTION)

Abstract

Worldwide, iron deficiency is prevalent single nutrient disorder and is known to have an effect on about one third of the worldwide population. One of the most worrying upshots of iron deficiency in children is the variation of growth performance. The prevalence affirms that, in children age group 6–59 months is 56.0% in urban and 59.5 % in rural area and 56.8% in whole population of age group of 5 years children, which is highest in total population are suffering from anemia as per NFHS-4 data. Total 200 infants were selected and categorized into 2 groups as control and anemic group from Sir Sunderlal hospital, BHU, Varanasi to assess their prakriti and head circumference. In the study maximum head circumference of most infants at pre and post study was in pitta-kapha, kapha prakriti, whereas minimum head circumference was observed at pre and post study in vata prakriti. In pre to post study p value was p=0.000 as there was difference in result value, which was clinically and statistically significant because of age difference and medical treatment. In comparison of mean difference (Mean± SD) of pre to post study of head circumference data of infants in control group was found normal as per standards of WHO and in anemic group it was lower in pre study and found normal in post study.
