A STUDY ON PERFORMANCE OF INDIAN PRIMARY MARKET-EMPIRICAL EVIDENCES

Abstract

The primary market provides platform to the companies to raise fresh capital and in recent times it has emerged as a major source of funding for the Indian companies. The Indian corporate houses issues equity shares, preference shares, debentures and bonds to raise the capital from primary market through Public Offers, Rights Issues and Private Placement, etc. The corporate houses depend substantially on public offers to fund their financial requirements. The present study intends to analyze the trend and development of Indian primary market and its contribution to the Indian industries. In order to attain the research objectives the study has taken data for ten years from 2006-07 to 2015-16 and the data has been analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation and compounded annual growth rate (CAGR). The study also calculated the coefficient of correlation to find out the relationship between the performances of primary market with secondary market and the results shows that there is significant relationship between the performance of primary market and secondary market.
