COMPARATIVE STUDIES ON YIELD AND ITS COMPONENT CHARACTERS AMONG INDIAN MUSTARD GENOTYPES [BRASSICA JUNCEA (L.) CZERN & COSS]

Abstract

Comparative studies at phenotypic and genotypic level among 10 quantitative characters in 40 genotypes of Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L) Czern & Coss] were made for two consecutive years. Seed yield per plant was found to be significantly and positively associated with plant height, number of primary and secondary branches and number of seeds per siliqua both at phenotypic and genotypic levels. Highly significant and positive correlation coefficients were noted between number of primary branches and number of secondary branches; length of siliqua and number of seeds per siliqua. However, a strong negative association existed between 1000 seed weight and number of seeds per siliqua. The characters day to flower ad days taken to maturity had significantly negative association with seeds yield and among themselves.
