Abstract

The liberal air and the vibrant intellectual culture of Bengal made it respond to the West spontaneously. Rabindranath Tagore has remained a prominent personality and powerful symbol of Bengal’s relation with Germany, a relation characterised by interconnectedness of humanity and a relation of “sharing” amongst great intellectual men. Tagore developed one such relation with the Germans, and according to ProfessorDietmarRothermund acted as a “therapist” to heal the wounds of this young nation.
