Abstract

Education gives direction to society. Trends in education change according to increased demand for changes in social structure and to cope with rising interaction within global sphere. However, it becomes difficult to introduce radical changes in society to keep pace with increased changes in technology and interaction with developed countries, advancement in education still helps in perceiving the relevance of changes, understanding patterns of change, their incorporation and acts as a breather. Focused intervention is needed in areas such as rural education to help simultaneous acceptance of changes in social values that go with the new system. Acceptance and receptivity should be inculcated through education so that friction may not arise and if it still arises it is kept to the minimum. Education provides the necessary link in the transformation process. Society needs to do its part by being more receptive, rather than being rigid, by being efficient in recognizing the merits and demerits of changes, rather than opposing every budding leaf at the very outset. This research paper is an attempt to analyze the role of education in society and social changes it can effectively infuse.
