Abstract

Reading looks like a simple activity but is indeed a complex multi tasking activity for the human brain. The brain does not seem to be well equipped for a reading task while oral acquisition of language is such an innate biological process that a rich tapestry of neural architecture is already available in the human brain to comprehend language.1 Reading is a more complex and recently acquired neural skill when compared to speaking. Steven Pinker famously noted that children are born for or “wired” for language, “but print is an optional accessory that must be painstakingly bolted on.” Indeed, to be a successful reader, one must rapidly integrate a vast circuit of brain areas with both great accuracy and remarkable speed.
