Abstract

Shrines occupy a distinctive position in the religious and cultural landscape of Kashmir. Although the classical khanqah was primarily a centre of Sufi instruction, spiritual discipline and fellowship, many contemporary Kashmiri shrines have inherited and transformed several of these functions.
