Abstract

The study of ancient Indian society and administration has traditionally focused on kingship, bureaucracy, revenue systems, judicial institutions, and political theory. However, a closer examination of literary, epigraphic, and numismatic sources reveals that women played a far more significant role in these domains than earlier historiography acknowledged.
