RETENTION AND FREE RECALL OF ACADEMIC MATERIAL IN CONCURRENCE WITH DAILY ROUTINE ACTIVITIES, TV VIEWING AND PLAYING MOTIVATED RECREATIONAL MOTOR GAMES

Abstract

Abstract Retention and free recall of academic material is a big issue in academic circles, at which individual’s scholastic achievements as well as career dangles. All stakeholders responsible for the educational health of a nation, including mothers (for children home work), put their cognitive as well as non-cognitive efforts to formulate and implement policies conducive for best output with minimum stress & strain on the young brains. The present study aimed at comparing the effectiveness of daily routine activities, TV viewing and playing recreational motor games on the retention and free recall of academic material. A sample of 60 students both male and female was selected for the experiment. The post learning interventions were given to the three groups formed randomly for the purpose of consolidation in learning and memory. The researchers used indigenous & novel stimuli words derived from one of the classic languages of India, Sanskrit, also known as language of Gods. The data were analyzed using one way analysis of variance. Interestingly, the study vindicated experimental hypothesis by upholding that “recreational motor games facilitate retention and memory of academic material”. However, constructive suggestions are warmly solicited.
