Abstract

This paper examines the theme of healing and integration in Paule Marshall's Brown Girl, Brownstones, focusing on the fragmentation of the female psyche and the protagonist’s journey toward psychological wholeness. The novel portrays Selina Boyce, a young Barbadian-American girl, who grapples with the conflicting demands of cultural heritage, gender expectations, and racial identity.
