Abstract

The increasing self-generated solid waste from the visitors in the hill spot is one of the most adverse forms of human impacts in mountain environments. The unplanned tourism, either in urban or village localities, has been creating many environmental problems. Among them solid waste is one of the most peculiar ones. For the in-depth study of solid waste management, Simsa and Rangri tourist villages close to Manali resort are selected in the upper Kullu Valley of Himachal Pradesh. There high inflow of tourists hotel and home stay cottages constructions for accommodation has been major causes for waste problem.
