Abstract

Ageing is associated with a decline in many body functions, an accompanying change in structure, loss of lean mass and a relative increase in fat mass over the time. Research over the past many decades has progressively reduced the number of these changes considered to be intrinsically due to ageing while it increased, those that are attributed to age-related disuse, inactivity and degenerative diseases.
