Abstract

Odisha occupies a unique position among the Indian States for her tribal concentration. The State has a tribal population of 22.8 percent as per 2011 census. There are 62 categories of tribal communities in Odisha. Since independence, there has been much emphasis on tribal development programmes in order to improve the quality of life of the tribals and to integrate them with the mainstream of Indian population.
