Abstract

Vishnu stories convey the Hindu worldview from the perspective of the householder. This is supplemented with Shiva tales that convey an equally legitimate but opposing perspective, that of the hermit. Because both Vishnu and Shiva were manifestations of God, both worldviews, that of the householder and that of the hermit, were valued equally.
