Abstract

In Ian McEwan’s novel Solar, the Nobel prize winning quantum physicist Michael Beard is portrayed as a misanthrope and a sarcastic character interested in finding a breakthrough solution for climate change. While analyzing the novel from a new historicist perspective, it is found that Beard is a solipsist who negotiates ethics to steal the ideas of a junior colleague.
