Abstract

Existentialism is that branch of philosophy which emphasizes upon individual existence rather than on conceptual ideation. Soren Kierkegaard states that this age has forsaken the individuals in order to take refuge in the Collective Idea. A human being is not an organ of a larger body but a person; this is not understood today as nothing is personal in this age of the “crowd”. Kierkegaard further opines that this is an age in which men have given up the dangers of passionate commitment and assertive individuality and have turned to the comforts of ‘understanding’ and ‘reflection’.
