Consumer exploitation by unscrupulous marketers is not a phenomenon of recent times, in fact its roots have been traced to the ancient era, the Vedic age, which is evident from the fact that the Vedas and Dharamshastra have also mentioned about Consumer exploitation. For decades the consumers have been neglected, deceived by the manufacturers as they had every right, to choose on behalf of consumers, the right to design, to distribute, to price and to advertise and consumer has only one right; that is, to buy at a imposed goods of inferior quality, sub-standard products at the price decided for them.
