Abstract

Rural poor population access to finance has improved slightly in recent decades. A large number of rural people in India still lacks in accessing the facilities of microfinance. NABARD has been working extensively vast to include the population into the formal banking sector with the introduction of the Self Help Groups (SHG), Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), and others. Self Help Group Bank Linkage Programme (SHG BLP) now go beyond simply providing savings and credit by assisting SHG members in expanding their economic activities and increasing their income levels through bank linkages. NON-PERFORMING ASSET (NPA) levels have raised remarkably over the years, rising from 2.86 percent on March 31, 2008, to 6.54 percent on March 31, 2018.
