Abstract

The modern democratic state will be unable to provide a stable government without a party system. India is a large democratic state in the world. The beginning of political parties in India can be traced to the formation of Indian National Congress in 1885, largely as an interest group of English educated middle classes who used the congress. A political party is organized on the basis of certain principles or programmes which are implemented when the party gets the power to control the government. They also play integrative role by resolving conflicts among the various groups or interests. They accommodate them too and articulate a frame work in which peaceful change becomes possible.
