Abstract

Music is the workmanship or study of organizing sounds in tunes and rhythms to give an ideal example or effects. Its improvement is a record of man’s exploitation of its actual properties, and its capacity to satisfy the stylish sense. Each civilization has had its own arrangement of music . In olden times, Tamil music were called pan or paan. The words pan and paan meaning a piece of music (whence padu, to sing, pattu, a song) belong to the earliest stratum Tamil, proving that singing was one of the ancient recreations of the Tamils .Male artists were called pannar and female performers were called pannathiyar or padinneyar
