Abstract

Raja Rammohan Roy was a great religious thinker who pioneered the cause of Indian renaissance in 19th century. That was the period in which Indian society was rocked by social evils like casteism, untouchability, child marriage, sati rites and deprivation of woman. He was deeply pained at the sight of the suffering of the Indian mass because of the rule of dogmas and superstitious practices. He founded of Brahmo Samaj with the sole mission of educating the Indian mass by infusing the sense of the unity of Godhood and brotherhood in them. He was a crusader against idol worship because religions come into existence with the sole intention of uniting human beings under common platform but superstitious dogmas creep into the religion later and they become the veritable instruments to divide humanity.
