Abstract

This study examined the relationships among physical fitness, Academic performance and conduct of Indian secondary school children. Data were collected among 100 pupils from Class 6 to Class 8 (mean age= 12.9, SD=0.84) from NCT Delhi. Three fitness items were tested including Aerobic Fitness, agility and body mass index. Student’s academic performance was based upon their annual examination result, which was being conducted one week after the fitness test was taken. Result indicated that selected components of physical fitness i.e. Aerobic Fitness, Agility and B.M.I. have positive effect on Academic Performance (p=0.628>0.05) and Conduct (p=0.063>0.05). Regarding gender differences, boys and girls differ significantly on Aerobic Fitness (p<0.01) and shuttle run test (p<0.01) but not on B.M.I. (p=0.87>0.05). To conclude, the dispute that physical activity participation deteriorates academic performance was clarified to some extent through this study.
