Abstract

Indian society is a patriarchal society where women had always remained marginalized especially in the decision-making processes. This begins at a very early age within the family and then within the society. Women have very little say in decisions affecting their own lives even regarding their acquiring education and marriage. For women in India, marriage is not a matter of choice. Only a small minority, even among educated women from well-off families, has had any role in deciding when and to whom they will get married.
