Abstract

The proportion of disabled population has been reported to be between 56 percent for males and 44 percent for females. The disabled by gender follow a similar trend, with the exception that the proportion of impaired females in the group is greater. Although both men and women with disabilities face prejudice as a result of their disabilities, women with disabilities face additional disadvantages as a result of discrimination based on gender and discrimination based on disability. Those concerned with disability problems, as well as the feminist movement, have historically overlooked women with impairments.
