Abstract

The concept of physical education is not new to the people of India. Indian exercise occupied a prominent place in this area; it is the oldest exercise system in the world. At the time when there was discussion of physical education in Greece, Sparta, and Rome, the physical education structure in India was not only ready but used extensively. Students in Ashrams and Gurukals, and householders in Akhadas and Gymnasiums used to practice appropriate exercises, like Surya Namaskar, Asana, Pranayama, Dand-sitting, Archery, and Mushti etc.
