Abstract

this paper we can make an attempt to access the processes through which a cultural group reproduces images of otherness to maximise its share of the political, social and economic goods. In other words how through the discourse of ethnicity and cultural reinvention it reconstructs its identity as a ‘authentic’ community in a manner that engenders ethnic mobilisation and conflict. The paper also investigates how these exclusionary processes of community construction contest the more egalitarian conditions of civic citizenship
