Abstract

Children are the assets of a nation and their well-being, protection and safety is to be ensured at all times. Calamities, disasters, epidemics or pandemics do not take away right to life, dignity, non-discrimination, equality, right to education and health of the children. Nations which invest in children and their welfare are able to prevent their citizens from getting caught in the circle of poverty as the educated and skilled and empowered citizens are resilient and able to bounce back from the calamities. The COVID -19 pandemic is the first pan India disasters and has impacted children adversely in multifarious ways. It has put a break to the gains made by the country in the sphere of the child rights over a number of years and threatens to nullify the same. The Government of India has launched many welfare schemes and policies but in the face of continuous challenges posed the pandemic the measures are falling short of the expected relief. The paper analyses the same and suggests the way forward.
