Abstract

Nepalis are migrating to India in search of employment. There was a high HIV prevalence among international migrants in Nepal who were returning from India. Nepali migrants to Mumbai are one of the high-risk groups of HIV in Nepal and in some parts of Nepal, HIV is known as Mumbai disease. This paper presents the socio-economic profile and the level of healthcare utilization among Nepali male migrants living with HIV/AIDS. Purposive and Snowball Sampling was used based on the characteristics of the population of Nepali migrants who are HIV positive. A structured interview was used for developing a socio-economic profile and understanding the challenges the respondents face in accessing care and treatment. Focus Group Discussions was used to understand the utilization of health-care treatment issues pertaining to institutional care and issues about admission.
