WORK LIFE CONFLICT AMONG WORKING COUPLES :A STUDY OF ANTECEDENTS AND CONSEQUENCES

Abstract

This article studies the relevance of different types of Antecedents responsible for work life conflict and its consequences on work life balance. It investigates the various antecedents of work life conflict as Work schedule inflexibility, Shift work, a high quantitative work- load, Lack of supervisor social support, Role conflicts, Role ambiguity, Long working hours etc. Few non work related factors associated with work life conflict are Family conflicts, Presence of children at home, Having a partner who works overtime frequently, Unsupportive family members. Findings indicate that consequences of work life conflict are as Low job satisfaction, Reduced organization commitment, Low martial satisfaction, Low family satisfaction, Distress and depression . High rate of labor turnover etc. Thus work life conflict has negative effect on family and work life of dual earner.
