PHYSICAL AILMENTS OF AGING POPULATION: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY IN ASSAM

Abstract

Health condition of the aging population is negatively related as their biological age progresses. Accessibility to medical support and care is very important in the later life of an individual. Besides, governmental support, the elderly are largely depended on the familial support. The present study has attempted to examine the perceived health conditions of the elderly by a few selected background variables like, age, education, marital status, income, social contacts and present work status of the elderly. The study also intends to assess the accessibility to governmental as well as familial care and support of the elderly in the Darrang district of Assam. The study reveals that financially depended elderly suffer a lot.
