Abstract

The Nyishis, who are numerically the most prominent and powerful tribe of Arunachal Pradesh in general and in Lower Subansiri district in particular. They occupy a vast stretch of hills and they are inhabiting mainly eight districts viz, East Kameng, Papum pare, Lower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri, Kurung kumey, Kra Daadi, Kamle, and some parts of West Kameng district. In the Lower Subansiri district they are mainly concentrated on the north and south of the Ziro valley along the river valleys of the Panyor. No society has ever been static and the socio-cultural change is a relative concept
