Parliamentary democracy was identified by our Founding Fathers to be the most suitable system of governance to deal with our vast array of diversity on all fronts of our national existence. One of the characteristic features of several Constitutional systems across the world is the doctrine of separation of powers, providing for the functions of the three primary organs of the State — the Executive, the Legislature and the judiciary to be carried out by separate bodies. It also entails that none of these organs should be vested with absolute powers, so that no organ or individual assumes powers of despotic proportions.
