Samastipur is one of the industrially backward districts of Bihar. The industrial development of the district has so far taken place mainly in the field of small Scale industrial units excepting for the four medium and large scale units consisting of 2 sugar mills, one paper mill and one just mill. A large number of the SSI units are engaged in the manufacture of agricultural implements, general engineering job works, edible & non-edible oils, bakery, ice-candy, tobacco products, sized timber, products, wooden furniture etc.
