Abstract

Indian Socialism emerged out of the social and political milieu of the two decades spanning the first and the Second World War. Its growth and impact was shaped by the attitude of the British authorities, recurrent economic crises, and the changing international and domestic political situation. The younger generation of Indians, particularly those associated with the Congress, also contributed to the emergence of socialism. They demanded major changes in the aims and objectives of the struggle for freedom.
