INTEGRATED REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND MODEL OF SPATIAL ORGANISATION IN SAMASTIPUR DISTRICT

Abstract

The district Samastipur of North Bihar Plain having more than 90% of rural population is mainly dependent on agrarian economy. Hemmed in between latitudes 250 22’ N to 250 52’ N and longitudes 850 40’ E to 860 32’ E on an area 2904 km2, Samastipur is an important district has total population 3.394,793 including 1760692 males and 1634101 females . The district has 628, 838 S.C. Population and 3362 S.T. population. The number of literates person are 1,211,152 persons (45.10%) having 802, 593 males and 408, 559 females in which the general literacy rate was 49.6% and S.C. literacy 25.1% and S.T. Literacy only 22% . Work participation ratio was 31.6% for total , 30.6% for general , 35.7% for S.C. population and 31.6% for total. 30.6% for general , 35.7 % for S.C. population and 62.9% for S.T. population . Percentage of main workers to total workers was 78.7% for total 79.7% for general, 74.5% for S.C. and 91.1% for S.T. population respectively.
