Abstract
The Rock art is not merely an expression of human kind, but also a representation of the tremendously rich life of ways of prehistoric people. Thus, of many things our ancestors left behind for us, none is more evocative than their early signature on; rock, the Rock Art. It was fortunate that present Krishnagiri district possessed one of the largest intensity of the tradition rock art of Tamil Nadu. Here in an attempt was made to review 59 rock sites in Krishnagiri district; of which 52 sites are shelter / cave paintings and 7 are dolmen painting sites. To understand and drive the chorological sequences of rock art the cultural traits exposed in excavation Mayiladumparai, Mallapadi, Paiyampalli and Modur are taken to consideration; sample pits in Thogarapalli and Gollapalli are not missed out.
