Abstract

Economic sustainability requires the development of industrial sector which sequentially leads to economic development. The major thrust of the present paper is to analyse the growth performance of Indian small scale industrial sector which is the backbone of the overall industrial sector during 1980-81 to 2013-14 which is further divided in two phases i.e. pre reform period (1980-81 to 1990-91) and post reform period (1991-92 to 2013-14). For the purpose of the study data has been curled from Annual Survey of Industries (ASI), statistics prepared by Small Industrial Development Organisation (SIDO) and Data compiled by Planning Commission. The broad objective of the paper is to analyse the growth performance of Indian manufacturing sector vis-à-vis small scale industrial sector in the context of economic reforms for the sustainability of Indian economic growth. The paper is isolated in three sections, first section, talks about the sustainable economic growth and growth performance of 13 major manufacturing industries of India. Second section highlighted the growth performance of small scale industrial sector. Lastly the third section discuss various policy implications. It has been observed in the paper that Indian economic gloomed on the path of globalisation after the economic reforms 1991. The policy, makers engineered a complete transformation of Indian economic policies from an unfeasible economy to a sustainable economy. However, globalisation has been favorable for the augmentation of small scale industry which is due to the innovative approach and active support of government incitements.
