Abstract
More than a thousand forts of different magnitudes defended the state of Mysore in the 18th century. Most of them were old forts conquered by Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan. They were all kept in the best repair ever since they became the property of Haider Ali. A few selected forts are discussed in this article.
